Approximately relevant is better than precisely wrong

Doug's new book confirmed why really good cost accountants are getting $90K+ salary offers in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Sarbanes-Oxley, headcount reductions and mis-directed priorities have cost accountants focused on precisely reporting 30-day old accounting news instead of approximately relevant profitability analysis, support of lean manufacturing and other forward looking needs of their employer. Hick's Law is worth the price of the book ... "A company will get a lot of business when it does not charge its customers for things it does for them, but it will NOT get much business when it attempts to charge its customers for things that it does NOT do for them."

Excellent and to the Point!

Doug does a great job explaining the many detrimental issues of traditional accounting. While my background is with lean accounting - or better stated, accounting for lean - he hits on the mark the same issues recognized by those involved with lean. Doug's book is directly to the point and is the perfect introduction to develop the understanding of the issues. These points must be known in order to properly begin discussing, developing and working through improvements, changes, and the next evolution of progress to institute better accounting practices; which, in turn, leads to better business overall. I very much recommend "I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It" to get everyone on the same page to begin the movement to improve accounting and get the right discussion going.

Dogu is on target as usual!

Doug has hit the mark once again in telling it like it is. This book has targeted the myths of accounting practices which have led us all at one time or another to incorrect financial decision. He has addressed an ethical side of the costing decisons we make and in his first chapter addresses the consequences of our decisions based on inaccurate information. As a senior executive in a publically traded organization this book has made me step back and rethink our model and the type of decisions we make. A must read for all executives.
