A training and reference guidebook for the Cessna 172. A companion to the pilot's operating handbook, expanding on the information provided, explaining in depth the technical information and operating procedures and providing tips to improve airmanship. Great for support to structured practical flight training on the aircraft or as a reference manual for pilots who already fly the aircraft. Compiled from manufacturers' maintenance manuals, a range of Cessna 172 Pilot Operating Handbooks from various models, and the authors' personal experience as flight instructors and charter pilots on the C172. The explanations are straight forward and easy to understand with photographs, diagrams, and schematics. The flight operations section includes standard practices for normal, abnormal and emergency flight operations, including performance planning, and sample calculations.

About the Author
Danielle Bruckert and Oleg Roud are professional pilots, instructors and examiners on the Cessna series of aircraft they write about. They now both fly for airlines, however both remain active in general aviation, providing instruction and check flights on light aircraft. Oleg began flying fighter and transport jets in the Former Soviet military, immigrating to Southern Africa after the collapse, to fly charter operations mainly on the Cessna aircraft, and airline operations on the Beech 1900 and Embraer 135. Danielle began flight training in New Zealand, and left for africa to gain experience in charter operations on Cessna singles and twins, and later joined the national airline in Namibia, flying the Beech 1900 and Boeing 737. Their motivation to write the books was to improve training and thus operating standards in the general aviation sector (the non-airline civil aviation sector), especially for light aircraft in private and charter operations. Training has been identified by the FAA, and other civil aviation authorities, as a major cause of light aircraft accidents, Oleg and Danielle hope the Cessna Training Manual series will help to improve training standards by improving the information available for pilots. Oleg and Danielle based the Cessna Training Manuals format on the progression of a typical training syllabus and information normally provided for training on larger aircraft, where there is stricter control over standards. Contact Danielle or Oleg through the contact page at Red Sky Venture's main site, http://www.redskyventures.org, or send an email to the address provided in the front of the books.

Book needs reproofreading to get rid of sloppy errors by author
By speedbird196
I have found several mistypes in this book: for one: on page 126 under the 'Specifications and Limitations'
subsection 'Speeds for normal operations,' the author list TWO 'Best rate of climb speeds.' One Best rate of climb speed is listed as (Vx), which is clearly wrong (Vx is BEST ANGLE OF CLIMB).
Secondly, on page 148, the author's 'NOTE; (1) Pressure Altitude (PA) = Altitude AMSL + 30 x (1013-
QNH) is all confusing. First, the reader is given the impresssion to 'add 30 to the field elevation and then
multiply the answer by (1013-QNH). Obviously, that statement should be reworked so as a simple algebra equation so as to clear up any confusion.
All, the confusion to the worksheet could have been prevented had the author taken the time to demonstrate a practicle example while also giving a clear definition to such items as "QNH, "X-", "H-", 'T-full", or what is the figure '1013' (some might not know what you're talking about).
All in all, this book has a great vision, but with sloppy editing in some areas.

Not a particularly useful book
By Ф УИ
This book is not particularly helpful for a new private pilot. The book does not really add anything beyond the POH, The Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, and The Airplane Flying Handbook; all of which you should already have with the latter two free from the FAA in eBook form. Furthermore, it covers in depth G1000, constant speed props, and retractable gear; which while being options on the C172, needless confuses the student on the basic equipment. The advice inside sometimes differs greatly from what I have experienced as standard practice. For instance, it recommends 2350 RPM on the downwind. That would be rather speedy in any C172 I have flown. I recommend buying a used POH for your Cessna type, and paper copies of those two FAA books right here on Amazon instead.
