Essential for traveling to in China!

This book is exactly what the "America-to-China" travel community has been missing. There are so many "American" ways of doing things...our culture...our ways of acting, that are so astonishingly different from the Chinese culture, that one would be remiss for ignoring this book. It will save you days of paralyzing humiliation, frustration, and self-doubt while while in China. Eaves is completely
on-point with her matter-of-fact assessment of the Chinese culture and advice about enjoying oneself abroad. In addition, she explains her career and the opportunities available for others interested in teaching there. This work is an absolute essential travel book!

Spot on advice

I ordered this book before my six-month teaching stint in Shandong. When I first read it (before I had actually arrived in China), I scoffed, as I (foolishly) thought that I already knew all about what was written in the book. How wrong I was.
Mea culpa bigtime.
The advice in the book is damn near perfect. After living and teaching here for awhile, I have to say that the author's advice is spot on. Heed her advice and her warnings! She doesn't waste a word and knows the situation perfectly.
Buy this book. Read this book. Heed this book.

My only complaint about this book is that it had a lot of information specific to teachers. I skipped those pages and the rest of the book was really helpful in knowing what to expect on my trip.
