Excellent!

I am 32 years old and have had type 1 diabetes since I was 8.
Recently I've met a wonderful woman who's now my girlfriend. Out of concern she wanted to ask me questions about my diabetes. I wasn't good at answering the questions mainly because after 20+ years I don't enjoy talking about it. Almost 99% of the information about diabetes on the Internet is about type 2.
I bought her this book read it myself then gave it to her. I thought it was wonderful at giving a basic understanding of the disease. It helped put her mind at ease and answered questions and dispelled many urban legends associated with type 1 diabetes.
The author stated this book was for coaches or teachers who have students with type 1 diabetes. She can now add for girlfriends of life long bachelors.

Finally!!

Finally this book exists. As a mother of a Type 1 diabetic child, I have often found myself answering the exact same questions over and over. Most of the books on the market are geared for "the 24/7 caregiver" or diabetics themselves, and are not for the "casual observer" or the baby sitter. This booklet is perfect for the person on the outside looking in; it has an easy to read format, takes the "scariness" of diabetes away and debunks a lot of myths, plus helps distinguish between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Thank you Lisa Powell, for giving us parents a nifty little book to pass around.

the BEST intro to Type 1 Diabetes book

My 16 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Wanting to learn all I could about the disease, I bought several books, and this one is the BEST intro book I have found on the market. It's comprehensive, yet easy to read, using a question-and-answer format. The writer is smart, knowledgeable, and explains things clearly. She debunks a lot of popular misconceptions about Type 1. I also appreciate her wry sense of humor. As a parent of a newly-diagnosed Type 1 patient, this book was invaluable. I will also be giving it to extended family members so that they can understand Type 1.
