Studebaker and the railroads

I received both volumes of this book for Christmas, 2011, because I have an interest in railroads and streetcars and I drove Studebakers for a number of years, from 1960 until the 1980s. The title indicated a strange combination of subjects but I found both volumes to most interesting and pleasant reading. The Author did a lot of research and I found nothing that seemed to be a mistake and, for those with an interest in such things, I recommend these books.
Be advised that the photos are all black & white and most are rather small.

South Bend revealed

As a young adult living in South Bend in the 80 and 90s and visiting many of the South Bend metro industries, I found the book very engaging as it connected the dots between Studebakers, South Bend's many surviving industries, buildings, and its unique cast of characters. I grew up in the automobile era and not the railroad era. Reading this, opened my eyes up to a whole new perspective of how the railroad was the real key to bridging the gap between horse drawn carriages and automobiles. I now have a much deeper appreciation for South Bend. This should be required reading for all students growing up in the metro South Bend area. I'm buying Volume 2.
