Underwhelming Effort

This book was a huge disappointment. Filled with mostly dull banter and provides no new insights or ideas. The book starts off with old recycled interviews with horror icons such as Stephen King, Clive Barker, John Carpenter, George Romero and Rick Baker. None of these interviews are particularly interesting or thought provoking. (Yawn) Okay, Part Two: "Columns, Essays and Opinions". Again, not much of interest here with the possible exception of a list of "notable slasher films" and a brief description. (Yawn). Part three: Slasher Profiles-Cardboard Killers. This is basically a brief description of some of the eighties horror figures. Jason, Michael Myers, Chuckie, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface and Pinhead. Mildly entertaining but again, no new information is given. (Stifled yawn) Part four: How to make an independent horror film/How to survive a horror film. This section is a complete waste of a tree! (Dozed off and dropped the book). The book ends with a list of eighties horror films. That's it. Just the list. No commentary of the films, no discussion of how they may have shaped the eighties, what their impact may have been. Nothing. Nada. Oh, some do have a number rating next to them but even then, there is no explanation as to why the film earned the author's rating. Overall, "Final Exam" is a complete waste of time and not worth your hard earned dollars. If you're interested in horror films of the eighties, there are much better books out there (Horror Films of the 1980s by John Kenneth Muir comes to mind). Avoid this turkey!
