Self Published Rubbish

This starts off with a priori assumption that God exists but offers no rational reason for this assumption. This book demonstrates what is known as an unfalsifiable faith. This simply means that Christians are shape-shifters and when presented with overwhelming evidence will if necessary shift to another interpretation.
This happens all the time. When evolutionary theory was proposed it was scoffed at (still is by many) until the other sciences (e.g., Biology, Ecology, Astronomy, Geology, Anthropology, Anatomy & Physiology, etc..) confirmed evolution to a high degree. Now some Christians that don't want to sound too silly or unsophisticated will resort to saying, "Well god used evolution or directed it".
It was supposed due to the biblical record that the Earth is 6,000 to 10,000 years old. Science has revealed that the Universe and the Earth are quite old. The Earth is nearly 5 billion years old. What did Christians do when this was no longer a subject to dispute? Some Christians still do deny this just as some people believe in a flat earth. Christians postulated a "gap" between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 of however long science demanded. See what I mean?
Really and truly anyone who believes that a book that has a talking snake, a talking mule, angels, devils, exorcisms, resurrections, heaven, hell, miracles, walking on water, virgin birth, turning water into wine is anything other then a myth is really fooling themselves. They try and come across like they are "intellectuals" but anyone with a little education and some critical thinking skills can see the fallacies of this unfalsifiable faith and downright absurdity of it all. But when you are in that mindset, you just can't see it. See "The God Virus: How Religion Infects Our Lives and Culture"
Having read this, it clearly demonstrates what I have just said to a "T". Not one thing John Loftus has written is refuted or challenged reasonably. It may give other believers with this "delusion" some satisfaction which is really the intended audience anyhow. Though I do appreciate this author telling Christians to buy John Loftus book for reference of the arguments. He shot himself in the foot by doing that as John Loftus has clearly more sophistication and very strong rebuttals against Christianity.

More than a Thoughtful and Quality Critique of John W. Loftus' Presuppositions

David Reuben Stone's book is not for the light reader. Stone tends to dig very deeply, arguing against those who believe no God at all exists (or at least no God of the Judeo-Christian religion exists). "The Loftus Delusion (Why Atheism Fails and Messianic Israelism Prevails)" is 223 pages long, with seven chapters.
As the title suggests, Stone's book is a treatise written in response to John W. Loftus' book "Why I Became an Atheist." Loftus, who claims to have spent years as a Christian, and a minister as well. Due to a number of situations or events, which took place in his life, forced him to re-evaluate his beliefs and position. What he realized was that he no longer saw himself as a Christian. Moreover, he came to believe that no God exists and the God he thought he worshiped, was in fact, non-existent during the years he spent as a Christian, in the ministry.
Loftus has a tendency to simply dismiss books that attempt to question his findings, his beliefs (before and after Christianity), and his own particular set of morals, as "lame" or "lacking substance." However, he rarely goes beyond this, though he endeavors to address some of the assertions, then usually peters out into a listless, menial attempt at waving all claims against him aside as if they have no meaning, and therefore, no reason to continue.
Stone's book is very well written. In fact, there is tremendous depth in his book, his arguments, and his reasoning. I will confess, that he completely lost me in chapter 1, simply because of the detail surrounding the mathematical formulae found within Stone's reasoning, Intelligent Design and Modus Tollens. I was never good at math...
Overall, Stone's book is heavy in the philosophical jargon and it needs to be because the entire area of theism is rife with it. He takes a good deal of time to respond to opponents by name, including Loftus, Bart D. Ehrman, Graham R. Oppy, and others.
Because the title of the book is The Loftus Delusion, obviously Stone approaches and in this reviewer's opinion, takes apart Loftus' opinions methodologically. Loftus disputes this on Stone's Web site that can is located at [...].
Stone takes the bull by the horns with Loftus' control beliefs, religious diversity, and the outsider test. It is here that Stone stops to take detailed stock of these positions and again, disassembles them. The one major area where Loftus and Stone disagree is in their view of agnosticism as it applies to the area of religious beliefs.
Loftus favors religious skeptical agnosticism, while Stone believes that religious neutral agnosticism is more appropriate when addressing areas of faith. "Religious neutral agnosticism (i.e. I don't know whether any faith is likely or unlikely) is distinct from religious skeptical agnosticism (i.e. I don't know any faith is likely, and I know all faiths are probably unlikely). In essence, Stone argues that since Loftus approaches any area of religious faith with the presupposition that all faiths are likely wrong. This, as Stone believes and argues, is the wrong foot to start off on.
If someone is honestly and sincerely interested in attempting to determine the truth for any religious faith, Stone believes that the best position with which to begin, is one that approaches the area with a completely neutral view.
The reality - in this reviewer's opinion - is that there is a great deal of substance in Stone's book, in spite of what Loftus or anyone else believes about it. It is impossible to read Stone's book and dismiss it by simply saying it is "lame" or "lacks substance" as Loftus has done. The depth that Stone plumbs in his book required me to read certain sections two or three times before I fully grasped what Stone was saying. This was most certainly not the case when I read Loftus' book (and eventually reviewed it). It had nothing to do with readability, but profundity.
Anyone who has read and gobbled up Loftus' book as if it is the greatest thing since ice cream, owes it to themselves to read Stone's book as well. Even those who have not read Loftus' book, but believe that there is little to no value in any religious faith should read The Loftus Delusion by David Reuben Stone for no other reason than to come face to face with genuine and quality arguments that fly in the face of those who believe that the only justifiable belief-system is one in which no personal God exists.
