Eating for Peace and Human Rights

This book contains about 80 of the favorite recipes of 71 contributors, all of them seemingly tireless in their peace and human rights efforts, and many of them world renowned, including eight Nobel peace prize recipients. Emily Goose prepared the original draft of this book as her high school senior project. Each contributor makes some prefatory remarks of a personal nature prior to his or her recipe; and then, in turn, the recipe is followed by a succinct professional biography, one that is occasionally spiced with private revelations. Together, these two pre- and post-recipe entries make the book a highly readable who's who of people who are devoting much of their lives to matters of peace and human rights, with a pronounced emphasis on those who have been working toward a world free of land mines and cluster munitions. Both of these are pernicious classes of weapons, which laudable numbers of countries throughout the world (although not as yet our own) have now formally renounced, especially so in the case of anti-personnel land mines, owing in large part to the efforts of various of the included collaborators. The recipes range from being simple and quick to accomplish, to others that are far more elaborate, requiring arcane ingredients, and occasionally even taking more than a day to bring to fruition. They run the gamut from A to Z for satisfying foodies of all stripes — herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores.
