Cornelius Gardener, who married Patton's daughter, served forty years in the Army, first on the Great Plains in the Indian Wars, then in Cuba and the Philippines in the Spanish American war. Patton Galloway has put together a fascinating look into the life and times of two of her grandfathers, Joseph Patton and Cornelius Gardener. Joseph Patton would serve in the Ohio Infantry in the Civil War and Gardner would graduate from West Point and serve throughout the Indian Wars, the Spanish American War and the Phillipine Insurrection. Gardener would later marry Joseph Patton's daughter "Bessie". The blending of the two men's careers and their families along with personal narrative creates a special memoir worth reading.

My father was the grandson and great-grandson of these two gentlemen. I can personally attest that some information in this and another book about my family is incorrect. Very disappointing.

Chillemi's first published book, Epilepsy You're Not Alone in 1998, helped millions of people understand and cope with their disorder enabling them to live a happy, healthy and productive life. Since that time, Chillemi has published numerous non-fiction and fiction books including The Complete Herbal Guide: A Natural Approach to Healing the Body, Epilepsy and Pregnancy: What Every Woman Should Know, Co-authored by Dr. Blanca Vasques, M.D., Faith, Courage, Wisdom, Strength and Hope, Natural Cures for Common Conditions and The Secrets of Happiness and Success: The Power Of Positive Thinking.

Her love affair with non-fiction and with health genre in general, began during her junior year of college when she was having faced by numerous obstacles due to her epilepsy disorder.  Hoping and praying that she would be able to finish college and not let her epilepsy disorder get the best of her, she decided to research her disorder hoping to find out more about her disorder and ways to cope with it. 

Sadly, there were not many books written about epilepsy during that era.  The few books written were by doctors and the medical terminology flew right over your head.  Determined to find the answers to my questions, "How can I graduate college when I am constantly having seizures?", "How can I become a success in life and not let epilepsy destroy my hopes and dreams?", "How do people with epilepsy cope with their disorder?"

I decided to write an article to epilepsy foundation and asked them to publish it.  I wanted to learn how others coped with their disorder. I received hundreds of letters from all over the United States and Canada. I decided to use the knowledge I gained to help myself  and others by writing a self-help book called, Epilepsy You're Not  Alone.  Writing that book changed my life.  Letters poured out from readers thanking me for writing the book.  I never realized how powerful words could be.  My greatest gift was not figuring out how to help myself, it was being able to help others who struggled from the same problem.  There is no greater gift in life than the gift of giving. 

I graduated college, received an Associate's Degrees in Business, and then went on to receive a Bachelor Degree in Marketing and Advertising, but in the end, I changed my career choice to journalism. I graduated Richard Stockton College in 1996. 

I began writing seriously in 1994, penning the manuscript that would become Epilepsy You're Not Alone. I held many jobs during those first years as a writer, finally settling in (much to our delight) to write full time in 2000.

Chillemi is an active member of her community and helps organizations in New Jersey.  She has written features for journals and newspapers. Her articles have appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines in North America and abroad. She won an award from the Epilepsy Foundation of America in 2002 for her help and dedication to people with epilepsy.

Born in 1972, Chillemi was born in New York and lives in New Jersey with her husband Michael, and their three children, Michael, Alexis and Anthony. The family pets include two Shih Tzu's, Rocco and Princess, and two birds Elmo and Tweedy.

When she is not writing, Chillemi chases after his three Shih Tzu's, takes long walks, hits the gym, and goes to all her kids' football, soccer, wrestling, basketball and cheerleading practices and games.

Stacey Chillemi graduated from Richard Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey, majoring in marketing and advertisement. In the mid-nineties while in college, she began her first book, Epilepsy: You're Not Alone. It was published six years later. Before and after graduation in 1996, she worked in New York City for NBC. Since the birth of her children, she has been a freelance journalist. She has written features for journals and newspapers. Her articles have appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines in North America and abroad. She won an award from the Epilepsy Foundation of America in 2002 for her help and dedication to people with epilepsy.

Chillemi's first published book, Epilepsy You're Not Alone in 1998, helped millions of people understand and cope with their disorder enabling them to live a happy, healthy and productive life. Since that time, Chillemi has published numerous non-fiction and fiction books including The Complete Herbal Guide: A Natural Approach to Healing the Body, Epilepsy and Pregnancy: What Every Woman Should Know, Co-authored by Dr. Blanca Vasques, M.D., Faith, Courage, Wisdom, Strength and Hope, Natural Cures for Common Conditions and The Secrets of Happiness and Success: The Power Of Positive Thinking.

Her love affair with non-fiction and with health genre in general, began during her junior year of college when she was having faced by numerous obstacles due to her epilepsy disorder. Hoping and praying that she would be able to finish college and not let her epilepsy disorder get the best of her, she decided to research her disorder hoping to find out more about her disorder and ways to cope with it.

Sadly, there were not many books written about epilepsy during that era. The few books written were by doctors and the medical terminology flew right over your head. Determined to find the answers to my questions, "How can I graduate college when I am constantly having seizures?", "How can I become a success in life and not let epilepsy destroy my hopes and dreams?", "How do people with epilepsy cope with their disorder?"

I decided to write an article to epilepsy foundation and asked them to publish it. I wanted to learn how others coped with their disorder.I received hundreds of letters from all over the United States and Canada. I decided to use the knowledge I gained to help myself and others by writing a self-help book called, Epilepsy You're Not Alone. Writing that book changed my life. Letters poured out from readers thanking me for writing the book. I never realized how powerful words could be. My greatest gift was not figuring out how to help myself, it was being able to help others who struggled from the same problem. There is no greater gift in life than the gift of giving.

I graduated college, received an Associate's Degrees in Business, and then went on to receive a Bachelor Degree in Marketing and Advertising, but in the end, I changed my career choice to journalism. I graduated Richard Stockton College in 1996.

I began writing seriously in 1994, penning the manuscript that would become Epilepsy You're Not Alone.I held many jobs during those first years as a writer, finally settling in (much to our delight) to write full time in 2000.

Chillemi is an active member of her community and helps organizations in New Jersey. Shehas written features for journals and newspapers. Her articles have appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines in North America and abroad. She won an award from the Epilepsy Foundation of America in 2002 for her help and dedication to people with epilepsy.

Born in 1972, Chillemi was born in New York and lives in New Jersey with her husband Michael, and their three children, Michael, Alexis and Anthony. The family pets include two Shih Tzu's, Rocco and Princess, and two birds Elmo and Tweedy.

When she is not writing, Chillemi chases after his three Shih Tzu's, takes long walks, hits the gym, and goes to all her kids' football, soccer, wrestling, basketball and cheerleading practices and games.

Stacey Chillemi graduated from Richard Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey, majoring in marketing and advertisement. In the mid-nineties while in college, she began her first book, Epilepsy: You re Not Alone. It was published six years later. Before and after graduation in 1996, she worked in New York City for NBC. Since the birth of her children, she has been a freelance journalist. She has written features for journals and newspapers. Her articles have appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines in North America and abroad. She won an award from the Epilepsy Foundation of America in 2002 for her help and dedication to people with epilepsy.

Ideal for someone looking to push beyond their borders

Sexuality and spirituality are often treated as opposing concepts, but Lee Harrington makes it clear that the sacred and the profane are not so far removed from one another. Sexual and religious exploration can take place at the same time, often using the same tools and methods, with powerful results. Sacred Kink is a sex-positive (and quite sexy) study of the search for meaning, self and identity through BDSM. Harrington calls upon an amazing scope of religious study, weaving aspects of Buddhism, paganism, and dozens of other faiths through his depictions of sexual play. He deconstructs the power behind the rituals of yoga, sexual relationship dichotomies (e.g., Master/slave) and role-playing, monkish asceticism, body piercing, ecstatic dance, and so many other concepts. This book is densely packed with information, so reading it is a slow but rewarding process.

Each chapter contains factual studies of "tools of the trade", drawing parallels between tools of the traditional spiritual variety (e.g., chanting, meditation, fasting) and the traditional tools of kink (e.g., floggers, costumes, leathers). This book is definitely not a dry-mouthed religious studies text, though. Sacred Kink is ripe with suggestions for personal practice, setting up scenarios for the healthy and adventurous exploration of control, sharing, enticement, curiosity, power, weakness, and the infinite. In addition, each of the eight chapters begins, splits, and ends with a steamy first-person narrative that illustrates the core concepts of the chapter. Lee Harrington demonstrates the many ways in which we can use the body and its sensations as a gateway to spiritual experiences. Whether it's growth, healing, catharsis, insight or union with the Divine, Harrington explains the tools ancient and modern practitioners have used to achieve these ends, pulling from many cultures, religions and current teachers. Lee discusses the risks and rewards along each of the 8 paths in his system in a very accessible, entertaining style, often illustrating his points with anecdotes from personal experience. This wide-ranging, well-thought-out book is a valuable resource for those who can see the potential of uniting spirituality, physicality and even sexuality in their personal practice.

I must make clear, as the other reviewers have, that this book is not for those new to either bdsm or Paganism or magickal practice, but for those who already have a grounding in those worlds looking to go further.

My only critiques of the book are that it could have used a more thorough proofreader, and that for me the section on childbirth as an ordeal path was extremely disappointing, saying nothing about the actual experience of the woman. Otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars.

A guide to kink spirituality

What I most enjoyed about this book was Lee's efforts to provide detailed information about each path and create a framework for people from multiple belief systems to engage in the incorporation of kink to their spirituality. Lee's expertise as both a sex educator and spiritual teacher shows through in this book time and time again. He provides excellent examples and also useful definitions for understanding each path. I found a lot in this book that I know I can apply to my own spiritual practices and I think anyone else would find a similar treasure trough.

We loved using this Haggadah at our Seder and you will too!

I have a Passover tradition of purchasing a new Haggadah every year. Sometimes I use it as a reference as I prepare for the Seder, and other times I read selections to expand the story and supplement the traditional text. Last year, after reading Diaspora Journey, I purchased additional copies for our entire family!

Using Disapora Journey at your Passover Seder will ensure your fulfillment of the rabbinic injunction "b'khol dor va-dor hayav adam k'eelu hu yatza mi-mitzraim - in every generation a person must regard himself as having been redeemed from Egypt." Too often the recitation of the Seder story is dry and the performance of its rituals mechanical. This innovative Haggadah renews the tradition of dramatic narration in the Seder. Ms. Albert makes the Passover story come alive, expertly weaving four tales of Jewish history - the biblical story, the
expulsion from Spain, the pogroms in Russia and the Holocaust - and setting them against the backdrop of a modern family's Seder with its attendant rituals. A gifted storyteller and playwright, Albert has created a Haggadah that is truly relevant to Jews of every age and in every age.

Bring Your Seder to Life

With this Haggadah everyone will sit up straight and pay attention for the whole Seder. Albert uses the format of a dramatic reading to take the Seder attendees through all the steps of the Seder (from lighting candles to eating the Seder foods to finding the Afikomin and grace after meals). Instead of looking for how many pages until dinner, participants will be anxiously awaiting their next turn to read their character's lines or they will be simply immersed in the dialogue of the current characters.

Albert uses five very meaningful time periods in Jewish history (Exodus, Spain in the 1400s, Russia in the early 1900s, America immediately after the holocaust, and present day/present place) to tell the story of slavery and freedom. Due to the intensity of these times in history I would recommend that children be of an age to handle these topics of Jewish persecution. With my own children I waited until 3rd grade to expose them to this Seder.

This Haggadah can successfully be done in a group as small as five people (there are only five characters in each time period) or as large as you have space to accommodate the participants. Although there are only 25 "speaking parts," Albert has also incorporated lines for all men, all women, and songs into the Haggadah so even attendees without a speaking role feel that they are an active part of the Seder.

If this book were a hotel, it'd be Waldorf Astoria, only funnier

Certain books are written without any consideration to page length, and lack forethought as to what dimensions constitute the perfect height for utilizing the book as a leveling tool on the floor under the leg of a wobbly table or chair. This book is not one of those books. Not only that, but if you take the amount of pages this book has, divide by Pi, factor in the Fibonacci sequence, and multiply by Orafoura you get the Kepler Triangle found in the Great Pyramid of Giza.''

As Pythagoras probably once noted, "a2 + b2 is not for the illiterate." Geometry is the alphabet soup of math, and "Dolph and Erasmus" is the chicken noodle soup of eggrolls.

If you like adventure, I mean really, really, really like adventure, as in you think Shackleton was a sissy, then this book is for you.

Plot summary: (WARNING: Plot spoiler) A gritty cop, John McClane, (played by Bruce Willis) arrives in the Big Apple to spend Christmas with his main squeeze (played by Doris Orange). Upon entering her office building he discovers that it, like Poland in 1939, has been invaded and occupied by a German genius with a mustache.

This evil mastermind, Hans Gruber, (played by Severus Snape from Harry Potter) turns out to be only interested in money, much to the chagrin of McClane's wife, who has fallen madly in love with him in what psychologists refer to as Stockholm Syndrome (named after the city in Germany following the kidnapping of Poland in 1939).

Wait, maybe that's not a synopsis of "Dolph and Erasmus" at all, but rather a description of the movie "Das Boot," which means, loosely translated, "The Shoe," or more precisely, "The Boot."

Some books are meant to be read, expanding our mind with every clever turn of phrase, while other books only let us reach greater heights by being stacked up and stood on. This book is not to be stepped on, except mentally, like an escalator, as it takes us to places we have never been before.
